Oyama BBQ in Newark offers a distinctive slice of Chinese barbecue that feels both authentic and rooted in tradition. This is a full-service restaurant where the dining experience balances an intimate, somewhat nostalgic atmosphere with robust flavors typical of northern Chinese-style skewers and cold dishes. The interior, marked by traditional Chinese décor and occasional live Guzheng performances, invites visitors who appreciate a setting that evokes an older era alongside their meal.

The restaurant is best enjoyed in groups, given the variety of skewers and cold plates like the Spicy Skewered Mixed Tripe, sliced thin beef tongue, and the cool, refreshing cold shredded potatoes. Diners often share multiple small dishes, making it ideal for social dinners where conversation blends with the tactile experience of sizzling barbecue and tangy cold starters. Planning your order in batches is practical here, ensuring the skewers stay hot and flavorful rather than arriving all at once.

Oyama BBQ’s clientele tends to appreciate more than just the food; the traditional ambiance and attentive service help create a relaxed but lively setting. While the service might speed up during busy evenings, staff generally accommodate larger parties comfortably and maintain a friendly demeanor. The restaurant’s signature dishes — such as the eggplant with garlic sauce and scallop vermicelli — highlight an emphasis on well-balanced flavors that don’t shy away from spice or the boldness of traditional ingredients.

This spot suits gatherings where diners want a hearty meal alongside a touch of cultural experience, especially in the cooler evening hours when the warmth of barbecue and wooden interiors enhances the cozy vibe. Keep in mind that most dishes contain peanuts, an important note for those with allergies.

  • Great for groups who enjoy sharing a variety of skewers and cold dishes
  • Atmosphere blends traditional Chinese design with occasional live traditional music
  • Best visited during dinner hours for a spicy, warm barbecue experience
  • Ordering in batches keeps the food fresh and hot during the meal
  • Service friendly but can feel rushed during peak times

Overall, Oyama BBQ stands out as a place where food lovers who appreciate authentic Chinese barbecue can gather comfortably and enjoy a menu that features both adventurous flavors and familiar classics within a distinctive local setting.

Simply amazing ambiance with live music Guzheng , the staff was very friendly and helpful. We were a group of 8 people, the waitress tried her best to sit us in the comfort space even during the high peak dinner time. The dishes taste extremely fantastic with a nice touch from the chef . Overall very good experience here and worth returning back. Highly recommend!

This is a good place to talk and enjoy Chinese style BBQ. The atmosphere is like the Ancient Chinese restaurant style. The interior design is traditional. And there is a Gil who is playing the traditional Chinese instrument. I really love traditional Chinese style building and design, so I really enjoy the environment here. The food and service here is normal. Not too good but not bad. If you look for different food here, the only difference is the Wine. They have traditional Chinese wine. (I am not sure about the wine, but the bottle is Chinese traditional wine clay bottle.) Really recommended if you like Chinese traditional style restaurant (not the food).

Dynasty BBQ has quickly become one of my favorite spots. The skewers are always tender and well-seasoned, and the cold noodles are especially refreshing and flavorful—I order them every time. The atmosphere feels authentic and cozy, and the service is consistently friendly and fast. A great place to enjoy real Chinese BBQ!

This BBQ is among top 3 which I’ve had in CA and WA. I like their eggplants the most. Best one ever! The wine in Chinese traditional container brought me back to the ancient times which is really fun. Only thing is that it is so busy that the server make us feel a bit rush. But their service quality overall is good.

This place was great! We got a little carried away with ordering for two but the food was tasty and it was fun! Update: 1.Suggest ordering in batches so the food is fresher as you're eating. 2.The pickled cucumbers are so good, and goes well with the skewers.
